Drinking + Drawing = Goodfoot Time in PDX!

Drink and Draw at The Goodfoot in PDX

It was awesome to get out and do some drawing with some folks at The Goodfoot. Every Sunday they host a Drink and Draw gathering. Some of the artists in attendance, on Sept. 20, 2009, were J. Shea, Martin Ontiveros, Tripper Dungan, and Chelsea Fletcher. I hope to make it out again to the next one on Sunday, starting at 8pm. The Drink and Draw has been put together by Portland artist Michael Fields, more info at draw.artpdx.com. Thanks Mike!

The Goodfoot has been doing art shows for the last 9 years, curated by Jason Brown (po’ boy art).  Each month we display different artists, and have a last Thursday art opening to celebrate their art. The Goodfoot has shown both regional and national artists on various levels of their career. The Goodfoot tries to give an opportunity to artists that might not have another outlet to display their art work, side by side with other artists that have been established and showing in the art world for some time. The Goodfoot has showcased several annual events such as; “The Art of Musical Maintenance” a music poster series, for the last 5 years, with artists from around the country, “Vinyl Killers” a show of painted records, for the last 6 years, with artists from around the world, recently we have added “I am, therefore I think” a social commentary series, for the last 3 years. This book is just a small handful of the artists that have shown, and show each year with the Goodfoot. They’re the glue that hold us together and have been contributing to the art scene for years. Enjoy!!!

Opening Art Show + Book Release: Last Thursday, July 30th from 5:30pm – 11pm
Will be up for most of August, 2009.

Mario Robert & Matt Schlosky

The Goodfoot will have an art opening June 25th, last Thursday, from 5-11pm.  The show will be up until July 28th, 2009.  The artists this month are Mario Robert & Matt Schlosky.

Mario Robert lll is an artist from El Paso Texas and a fourth generation carpenter inspired by comic books, movies and ancient civilizations.  Using the wood’s own grain and knots, he first develops the main idea of the painting. He then paints and sometimes carves the wood and is able to convert his simple materials into stunning art pieces. Each piece is an explosive colorful experience. Following the Mexican day of the dead folklore, he begins to add his new take on a very old tradition of telling and creating new stories.

Matt Schlosky was born and raised in Rochester, NY. In December of 2005, he received a BFA in Industrial design from The Columbus College of art and Design. After graduation Matt decided that painting was where his heart was, and that the design world wasn’t for him. Matt spent a year in the bay area painting and doing shows until July of 2008 when he landed in Portland. Matt’s artwork is inspired by comics, video games, graffiti, music, society, nature, ancient cultures, and the people he has met. He believes in his heart that art is what he is supposed to do, it’s been his mediation.

a little taste of the show.
