ARTCRANK Portland 2011

PDX ArtCrank
ARTCRANK returns to Portland for its third consecutive year, featuring new hand-made, bike-inspired posters created by 34 local artists. We’ve gotten such a great turnout over the past two years that we’re adding an extra day to the show this year. We’ll be at The Cleaners at The Ace Hotel for a First Thursday opening night party on October 6, and a special Saturday showing with extended hours on October 8. Admission is free, and limited edition copies of all posters will be available for $40 each.

At Thursday night’s Opening Night Party, Portland-based Widmer Brothers Brewing will provide a selection of craft beers, and ARTCRANK glassware will be sold to benefit Bikes To Rwanda, a nonprofit organization that provides specially designed “coffee bikes” to help Rwandan farmers transport their crops to market and create a sustainable local economy.

PARTY ARTY: SECRET POP-UP ART GALLERY FOR iPHONES TONIGHT!

There’s a first-of-its-kind art gallery popping up in Portland for two hours this Thursday but if you want to know where and what time it is exactly, you’ll need to sign up to receive a super secret text message. Oh, and if you want to actually see the art from 43 internationally renowned artists, you’ll need to bring an iPhone and QR code reader app.
This First Thursday, art, design, and technology lovers come together for a one-time special event that is part flash mob, part pop-up store, and 100% Portland.

“Portland is known for its creative and high-tech industries so it’s no surprise that it will soon to be the home to a new kind of pop-up art gallery exclusive to iPhone users.”

Last week, postcards with the slogan “Party Arty” began circulating around town inviting iPhone users to scan the QR code or simply text “dabball” to 503.991.4474 and then wait for the secret time and location to be texted back to them.

Once the word is unleashed, First Thursday attendees can take their iPhones with the installed ScanLife QR code reader app to the pop-up gallery’s location to view amazing new works from 43 internationally renowned artists, including Portland’s own Brooke Weeber, Ryan Berkley, GUYBURWELL, Cole Gerst, HUTCH, Santiago Uceda, and Will Bryant, as well as Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices), David Yow (The Jesus Lizard), Alyson Fox, Andrew Neuhues, AustinVonNEW, Beautiful/Decay, bee things, Blake E. Marquis, Bomboland, Brainstorm, Catherine Ryan, Christopher Bettig, add fuel to the fire, Eleanor, Erik Otto Studios, Esther Pearl Watson , Hannah Stouffer, Jacob Escobedo, Jonathan Calugi, Kiino Villand, Linda Kim, Matt LaFleur, Michael C. Hot One Inch Action :: the Button Art Show

Conceived by Jim Hoehnle and Chris Bentzen in 2004, Hot One Inch Action is the original, one-night only show of button art, music and social interaction in Vancouver, BC. The original work of fifty different artists is presented on one inch buttons. These one inch buttons are displayed on the gallery wall and the audience is offered the opportunity to buy randomly selected buttons in mixed bags of five for $5. If the bag purchased does not have the desired button, trade with the people around you. How bad do you want that button?! That’s when the hot action starts.

This Fall, in addition to our regular Vancouver show, we’re bringing the hot action to Seattle and Portland.

Portland’s Hot One Inch Action is Thursday November 11, 2010 (8-11pm) at Backspace (115 NW 5th Ave, Portland OR).
