On the main wall opening this Thursday we have Hikari Shimoda from Nagano, Japan. Hikari captures a creepy innocence in her paintings of children with a subtle darkness always looming nearby. These paintings are insanely good. Come check out the kids.

On the second wall we will have Portland tattoo artist Joanne Slorach’s
contemporary illustrations. Influenced by tattoo line work, Joanne renders the natural world in amazing detail. Come out and support a local badass.

After The Quake at Hellion

AFTER THE QUAKE
Part of a double opening this Thursday at Hellion, after the quake features a series of paintings and drawings by students from Maioka elementary school in Yokohama Japan. During the devastating earthquake of March 11th the students were asked to draw how they were feeling about the event and they continued to put their emotions on paper over the next two weeks.
While I was in Japan recently I asked the students and their teacher if I could bring the artwork back to Portland and exhibit it. The artwork will be for sale with the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross.
Show opens Thursday May 5th, 2011 at 6pm. Gallery hours Tues-Sat 12-7pm. 19 NW 5th ave, #208. Enter to the left of upper playground on 5th then up the stairs to the right.
