Portland Artist Klutch paints up Willamette Week Newspaper Box

Portland Art Show Opening, First Thursday, November 5th, 2009 starts at 5:30pm (Show closes Nov. 30, 2009)
Backspace – 115 NW 5th Ave., Portland, Oregon

To help celebrate Willamette Week’s 35th anniversary, WW asked some of Portland’s hottest emerging and iconic artists to turn their newspaper covers into new pieces of art in their own unique styles. They got the idea from local artist Klutch (Vinyl Killers), whose “remixed” WW covers caught their eye and inspired them to invite other artists to try their hand at using, well, us, as a medium. Trashed @ 35 features Klutch’s work, as well as WW-inspired art by Brett Superstar, Dan Gilsdorf, J. Shea, Alexis Mollomo, Josh Arseneau, Chris Haberman, Tripper Dungan, Pedro Dorsey, Jason Graham, Lydia Crumbley, Eve Lake and Tom Cramer among others. Come meet the artists, check out their kick-ass work, and toast WW at the crusty old age of 35 at the show’s First Thursday opening.
Willamette Week Newspaper Box was done by Portland artist Klutch for the art show.

Fontanelle Gallery – 205 SW Pine Street Portland OR 97204

Fontanelle Gallery is pleased to present Queer Gaze, a group photography exhibition featuring images of queer people by queer photographers. This show offers a new examination and response to theories of “male gaze”, as originally described by Laura Mulvey as the cinematic depiction of voyeurism and objectification of a female by a heterosexual male viewer. Queer Gaze explores the gaze from woman to woman or queer to queer, as well as the way that many photographers use their own visage or that of their friends to subvert traditional expectations of portraiture.

Exhibiting artists include Sarah Baley (Brooklyn), Erica Beckman (Brooklyn), Tammy Rae Carland (Oakland), Zackary Drucker (LA) & A.L. Steiner (Brooklyn), Luke Gilford (LA), Grit Hachmeister (Berlin), Megan Holmes (PDX), Angela Jimenez (Brooklyn), Molly Landreth (Seattle), Amos Mac (San Francisco), Finn Paul (PDX), Emily Roysdon (NYC/Stockholm), Lorenzo Triburgo (PDX), and Azsa West (PDX).
Queer Gaze will be on view at Fontanelle Gallery through November 28, 2009 during open hours, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to six pm.
BIG GAY PARTY: Thurs., November 19th, 2009 at 8pm, Play/Start will perform along with other artists TBA.
