Hot One Inch Action :: the Button Art Show

PinterestFacebookTumblrEmailShare

Conceived by Jim Hoehnle and Chris Bentzen in 2004, Hot One Inch Action is the original, one-night only show of button art, music and social interaction in Vancouver, BC. The original work of fifty different artists is presented on one inch buttons. These one inch buttons are displayed on the gallery wall and the audience is offered the opportunity to buy randomly selected buttons in mixed bags of five for $5. If the bag purchased does not have the desired button, trade with the people around you. How bad do you want that button?! That’s when the hot action starts.

This Fall, in addition to our regular Vancouver show, we’re bringing the hot action to Seattle and Portland.

Portland’s Hot One Inch Action is Thursday November 11, 2010 (8-11pm) at Backspace (115 NW 5th Ave, Portland OR). Featuring button art from APAK, Amy Jenkins, Amy Ruppel, Anna Magruder, Audrey McNamara, Brian Bump, Bryan Sculthorpe, Charlie Alan Kraft, Chris Haberman, Chrissy Ortez, Dan Osterman, Danielle Weiss, David Herrick, Erik Heumiller, Erin Nations, Erinn Hatter, Gabriel Amadeus, Griffon Jillson, Hadley Hutton, Ian Anderson, Jackie Dives, Jackson Smith, James Baker, Jennifer Mercede, Jenn Woodward, Jesse Narens, Jesse Reno, Kaitlin Sambrooke, Karl Edwards, Kasey Tararuj, Kelly Williams, Klutch, Lida Avery, Martin A. Portland Artist Klutch paints up Willamette Week Newspaper Box

Portland Art Show Opening, First Thursday, November 5th, 2009 starts at 5:30pm (Show closes Nov. 30, 2009)
Backspace – 115 NW 5th Ave., Portland, Oregon

To help celebrate Willamette Week’s 35th anniversary, WW asked some of Portland’s hottest emerging and iconic artists to turn their newspaper covers into new pieces of art in their own unique styles. They got the idea from local artist Klutch (Vinyl Killers), whose “remixed” WW covers caught their eye and inspired them to invite other artists to try their hand at using, well, us, as a medium. Trashed @ 35 features Klutch’s work, as well as WW-inspired art by Brett Superstar, Dan Gilsdorf, J. Shea, Alexis Mollomo, Josh Arseneau, Chris Haberman, Tripper Dungan, Pedro Dorsey, Jason Graham, Lydia Crumbley, Eve Lake and Tom Cramer among others. Come meet the artists, check out their kick-ass work, and toast WW at the crusty old age of 35 at the show’s First Thursday opening.
Willamette Week Newspaper Box was done by Portland artist Klutch for the art show.
