FACE 2 FACE

A Group Portrait Art Show
Urban Grind Coffee

2214 NE Oregon St. Portland OR 97232
Mon.-Fri.: 7-5; Sat.: 9-5

On display for the month of April

Opening Reception: Saturday, April 2, 2011
6:00-9:00 pm

Early this year, 24 artists got together and exchanged photographs of themselves for the purpose of painting portraits of each other. None of the artists know who is painting whom. Open to any medium and only limited by size, the high-caliber of experienced artists’ work will be revealed only at the opening, to the public and to each other.

When artists make work for other artists, the stakes are immediately raised. Peer reviews always bring out the best in an artist’s work. And now, through this unique show, the public has a rare opportunity to see 24 distinct portrait artists at the height of their ability.

Just to see 24 original approaches to the art of the portrait would be reason enough to see the show, but adding the element of surprise and the pressure of one’s fellow artist as the recipient of the piece, makes this one of the more unique art exhibitions this year.

Artists participating in the show include:

Hot One Inch Action :: the Button Art Show

PinterestFacebookTumblrEmailShare

Conceived by Jim Hoehnle and Chris Bentzen in 2004, Hot One Inch Action is the original, one-night only show of button art, music and social interaction in Vancouver, BC. The original work of fifty different artists is presented on one inch buttons. These one inch buttons are displayed on the gallery wall and the audience is offered the opportunity to buy randomly selected buttons in mixed bags of five for $5. If the bag purchased does not have the desired button, trade with the people around you. How bad do you want that button?! That’s when the hot action starts.

This Fall, in addition to our regular Vancouver show, we’re bringing the hot action to Seattle and Portland.

Portland’s Hot One Inch Action is Thursday November 11, 2010 (8-11pm) at Backspace (115 NW 5th Ave, Portland OR). Featuring button art from APAK, Amy Jenkins, Amy Ruppel, Anna Magruder, Audrey McNamara, Brian Bump, Bryan Sculthorpe, Charlie Alan Kraft, Chris Haberman, Chrissy Ortez, Dan Osterman, Danielle Weiss, David Herrick, Erik Heumiller, Erin Nations, Erinn Hatter, Gabriel Amadeus, Griffon Jillson, Hadley Hutton, Ian Anderson, Jackie Dives, Jackson Smith, James Baker, Jennifer Mercede, Jenn Woodward, Jesse Narens, Jesse Reno, Kaitlin Sambrooke, Karl Edwards, Kasey Tararuj, Kelly Williams, Klutch, Lida Avery, Martin A. The Last of the Vinyl Killers at The Goodfoot

Vinyl Killers 8 opens on October 28th
The Goodfoot
2845 SE Stark St.
Portland, Oregon
open daily from 4 PM to 2:30 AM.  The show will be up until Nov 30th, 2010.There will also be vinyl only selections from dj’s monkeytek, ryan organ and samizdat during the opening

The often imitated, never duplicated, OG vinyl art show, Vinyl Killers returns this October for another round of rescuing long forgotten records from the world’s landfills. This year there have been at least 6 other vinyl shows in North America alone and interest in the art form is at an all time high. After seven annual shows and several touring exhibits Vinyl Killers remains committed to staying open call, independent, D-I-Y, and free of corporate sponsorship.

Since it’s inception in 2003 Vinyl Killers has showcased well over 1000 records painted by artists from around the world. A quick glance at the VK website shows both the genres global influence and the absolutely amazing things that are being done with paint and old records. Media recognition for this innovative show includes The Art Of Rebellion 2 and Stencil Nation, and features in numerous international street art magazines and blogs. In 2005 Klutch, the founder and curator of VK, had the room that he decorated with painted records for San Francisco’s Hotel Des Arts featured in Time magazine.

Unfortunately this will be the LAST Vinyl Killers.
