- Legend has it that a statue stood guarding the entrance to the harbor at Rhodes, an island in the Aegean Sea, and was reckoned to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World before it’s alleged destruction in 224 B.C. It was said to hold a light to act as a beacon to ships as well as weapons in it’s hands to protect the port. It was built to resemble the Sun God “Helios.”
