Bogart plays private detective Philip Marlowe who is hired by the wealthy Sternwood family to investigate a blackmailer. While working the case he falls for the eldest daughter Vivian Rutledge (Bacall) which further complicates the case as it gets gets more mysterious and dangerous. In 1997 The Big Sleep was added to the National Film Registry for it’s cultural and historical significance.

Jamie S. Rich is the author of four novels and the writer of several short stories and comic books including “Love the Way You Love” and “12 Reasons Why I Love Her”. He is a former editor at Oni Press who published the graphic novel “You Have Killed Me”, a collaboration with writer and artist Joelle Jones.

Mr. Rich will be on hand to discuss how the film influenced the graphic novel with moderator Tom Shimmin of Oni Press.
