I’ve been emailing back and forth with Steve Mathews, as he vacations down in Mexico with his family. And here is what he had to say:
Eye: What do you like to paint the most and why?
Steve: Whatever comes to my mind first, which usually ends up being some kind of animal, because they are fun to paint.
Are there somethings you don’t like to paint?
I have not found it yet.
How has your art changed in the last year?
My art became the process of keeping up with the ever changing temperament of an infant and luck.

You have a new addition to your family, how are you handling your new role in life?
Depends on who you talk to.
In your opinion, are things going well, is it what you expected?
I am not sure I had too many expectations, it has been most uncertain.
Has fatherhood effected your art, if so, how?
It has become my art.
What are some of your latest discoveries?
I am not invincible.
Are you talking about your bike crash or something else?
Peter Pan is dead.
How do you escape reality?
In general, I never try to.
What is important to you?
Love happiness fun, the order depends on the day.
